We were fortunate enough to get an advanced bottling of Conor McGregor's new whiskey, Proper No. Twelve to review.
Anyone who knows Conor McGregor knows he's a 2 division UFC champion and he even boxed Floyd "Money" Mayweather in his pro-boxing debut. He sets /huge goals, and he usually accomplishes what he says he will. During the Mayweather fight he was talking about his "Notorious" whiskey coming soon.
You might be asking, why doesn't this bottle say "Notorious"? Well, he lost a lawsuit on the Notorious trademark for alcohol use and has since changed the name to Proper No. Twelve.
Conor McGregor claims now, he wants his whiskey brand to be the number 1 whiskey in all of Ireland, that title is currently held by Jameson. So he has some big shoes to fill, will Conor be able to add another championship to his collection?
Update 9/17/18: We learned that this is actually a sourced whiskey made by Bushmills. Conor McGregor does not in fact own his own distillery. I'm sad to say he is purposely deceiving us and making it appear that he does. I'm all for sourced whiskies when there is transparency and truth involved.

This is a different representation of Irish Whiskey to me. I typically find Irish whiskey to be boring, not bad, just boring. This is not that.
Redbreast 12 Cask Strength is not only aged for 12 years, and is bottled at 58.2% abv (most Irish comes in at 40%) but it's also aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry casks.
The sherry gives this whiskey a beautiful color. Even at the high proof, the sweetness and complexity is what really shines.
We reviewed it recently which you can watch in the video below:

Without further ado...the Whiskey Warrior!
So even though the Whiskey Warrior for September 2018 was announced on the first of the month, it's taken a few days to get around to write about it.
The Whiskey Smith's announced me as their award winner for the month of September!
It's always difficult to write about yourself without sounding pompous. Even though I am really proud of being chosen. It actually really made my day when they told me I was their winner and they wanted to interview me. It gave me a much needed boost to know the work I've been doing is getting some recognition.
Read the interview here:

For those who aren't aware the Whiskey Smiths choose a "Whiskey Warrior" every month. They award those who they feel exemplify whiskey stewardship. By introducing new people to whiskey, having no judgement and shining a good light on all things whiskey related. As a long time reader, I've been following every one of their past winners so I was completely in awe when they contacted me. Definitely the highlight of this journey so far.
The Whiskey Smiths also have a website, a newsletter and of course are on social media. I highly suggest signing up for their newsletter.
They also created a great resource called the Deductive Tasting Guide. You can download the chart for free on their website. Or you can purchase the booklets so you can write in the whiskies you have tasted on your journey (which is what I suggest)
They're more active on their own website but still,
Follow them on Instagram: Whiskey Smiths IG
or Facebook: Whiskey Smiths FB
I have a lot of fun stuff in store and you can expect to see a lot from this "Whiskey Warrior" so make sure you're following me on social media and Youtube.
I want to thank the Whiskey Smiths for choosing me this month. Also thanks for the badass prize pack. Framed certificates, a tasting guide with pen, and a Whiskey Warrior etched Glencairn glass.
Here's a video of me unboxing the package they sent:
Introducing the Whiskey Warrior!
I've mentioned this whisky enough times in other videos so it's about time we finally reviewed it for our Youtube channel. So here it is, my personal favorite whisky and the one that really made me fall in love with exploring whiskies as a hobby: Laphroaig 10 single malt Scotch whisky.
This is a very smokey whisky from the Islay region of Scotland. The smokiness comes from the peat. Peat is a moss that grows in peat bogs that have been used as a heating fuel for thousands of years. Peated whiskies use a malted barley that has been dried with peat smoke.
Peated whiskies are my favorite kinds. They often bring a BBQ type flavor in addition to a briney saltiness.
Laphroaig 10 just has an amazing aroma that is so pleasurable you can sniff it for hours without even drinking it.
Nose: Smoke, medicinal, briney, BBQ meats
Taste: A flavor explosion that changes rapidly between smoke, sweet, salty.
Finish: Extremely long as the oils cling to the tongue. This is a slow sipper as the flavors constantly evolve and will continue to do so long after you've sipped.
So we know it's my favorite, but what does Mike think of this smoke bomb? Watch the video to hear his opinions.
As a fan of scotch and other whiskeys I was tired of looking up reviews for new whiskeys that just oozed of snobbery. I wanted to create an outlet for average Joe's who don't have a sommelier palate. Born and raised in Long Island, New York, I moved to San Diego, California in 2010 with my wife. I'm also a fan of MMA, pro-wrestling, comic books, video games and strongman. All subjects are topic for discussion on the podcast.
